General Advice

Look at other Discords for ideas on how to structure your own server.
- Discords to look at: Ones similar to your game, ones in a similar situation to you but may not be similar in gameplay (Ex. AAA, small indie, high-budget indie), ones outside of game studios (Ex. streamers you like, brands, community-run Discords)
Make sure your rules are precise and clear but leave some wiggle room for interpretation and nuance. I look at a variety of Discord server rules, take the rules I think are the most relevant, and then rewrite them in my own words.

You may want to remove any connections that show what you're listening to on Spotify or playing on Steam. Some community members may use this information against you.
There are a lot of scams right now, so avoid clicking on unknown links both in your Discord and in your DMs. Also avoid sharing details about your Steam account or other personal details.
You may want to disable emotes from external Discords, as they can often be inappropriate.
Individual channel roles will automatically override default role permissions (including category permissions), so be careful when doing individual channel permissions.

If you want to have searchable GIFs on Discord, make sure to upload them to Tenor with easy-to-find tags.
